Dallas, TX 75202

Founded as a trading post in 1841, Dallas acquired its cosmopolitan flavor early, with the 1855 founding of a cooperative, utopian colony of Belgian, French and Swiss artists, musicians, writers and scientists. Railroads made Dallas an important transportation hub, and an oil boom in the 1930s brought wealth that is still much in evidence. The view of the skyline from the train is excellent with the Bank of America Plaza, at 71 stories, the tallest. Mobil's Pegasus (flying red horse) tops the modest building that was Dallas' highest in 1948. Next to the station is the 540-ft. Reunion Tower, which overlooks the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Amtrak shares Dallas Union Station with Trinity Railway Express and DART. DART provides light rail and connecting bus service to major Dallas locations; TRE operates train service to Irving, Centreport (D/FW Airport), and Fort Worth.
