Coconut Island is an exclusive island guesthouse, including private staff, in
the backwaters of Kerala.
The island is 150 metres from the shore in Canoli canal - a man made
canal built in the time of British. There are no inhabitants on the
island other than Brahminy Kites, Pond herons, King fishers and crabs.
There is only one guesthouse on the acre of coconut lantation, canal and
mangrove forest. The guesthouse accommodates only two people. The
cottage is designed as an old kerala house with an open verandah on all
sides. The wooden pillars collected from old wood houses support the
roof around the verandah.
The cottage is designed and built according to Vasthu - an ancient Indian
knowledge of architecture promising peace, prosperity and happiness to the
inhabitants. The cottage consists of a spacious bedroom of 180 square feet and
320 square feet of verandah. The ceiling is done with Mahogany wood in
traditional fashion.
The bedroom has two cozy beds on beautifully carved wooden coats. The room is
well equipped with large a wooden almiraha, writing desks, and chairs. The room
has a small television, phone and dial up internet connection for your laptop.
Enjoy the privacy of your room and the beautiful views through six large windows
and two doors. The island always has a good breeze with a very fine climate. The
bedroom has a ceiling fan and an air conditioner in case you wish to control the
climate.
The large, 150 square feet, open roof bath garden has cold and hot showers
and all the modern fittings.
There is another house on the island that serves as a kitchen and
office/library. The kitchen is spacious and open to guests at any time. The
verandah of this house also commands a good view of the backwaters and the local
ferry - a country row boat - passing every 15 minutes near the island.
