 Royal Island Resort, Maldives
Previous Page

Close your eyes and dream of paradise - find it in the heart of the Indian Ocean on a Maldivian island with beautiful Banyan trees and lush green shrubs. Royal Island is surrounded by a crystal clear blue lagoon encompassing spectacular tropical marine life. Wake up to the sound of birds chirping, be lulled by the gentle waves washing onto white sandy beaches and make your dreams come true at the Royal Island Resort & Spa.

 Maldivian Hospitality
Experience the unique Royal hospitality, a legacy of hundreds of years of proud history. The grandmother of the greatest Maldivian hero of all times, Boduthakurufaan, made this island her home and is buried here. The remnant of this rich historical heritage is preserved for its symbiosis with the local social and natural environment, epitomizing the Maldivian hospitality.

Today, Royal Island is a vibrant reality, a marriage of ancient traditions and modern living, dedicated to ensuring that guests experience the heart and soul of the Maldives at Royal Island.

 Location
Royal Island is located in Baa atoll, 75 kilometres north west of Male, the capital city of the Maldives. The Baa atoll has 50 islands, but only one fifth of them make up the population of this atoll. The remaining islands are deserted with unspoiled wildlife and barely trodden beaches. Some of these neighbouring uninhabited islands are ideal picnic spots for guests of the Royal Island and Spa.

Due to the location of Baa atoll, it is influenced by the southwest monsoon, especially from May to July, bringing in large quantities of nutrients from the surrounding ocean which attract whale sharks and manta rays.

The main occupation of atoll's population is tuna fishing. Some of the islanders are well known for their skilled craftsmanship. Lacquer ware is a particularly unique creation of the people of Thulhaadhoo and is sold in many souvenir shops and resort boutiques. Eydhafushi.

Transfer It's a smooth journey by seaplane from the main airport to Baa Atoll. The Trans Maldivian Airways twin-otter float plane takes 35 minutes to reach the Royal Island platform. Before departure, Trans Maldivian Airways provides guests with the comfort of waiting in the Royal Lounge. Once the seaplane reaches the Royal Island platform, a boat welcomes guests and whisks them away to their holiday paradise.

 Adventures
The Royal Island and Spa offers its guests a variety of activities on and off the island. Take a trip out into the blue yonder and experience the underwater wonderland that is the Maldives. Fishing is an especially exciting experience and need not be a threat to endangered marine life.

Morning Fishing As the dawn breaks, fish come up to feed. Throw in a line, sit back and watch the dark sky turn to breathtaking shades of indigo, orange and blue. Soon there'll be a huge catch to take back for lunch.

Night Fishing It's an opportunity to watch and be a part of the sunset from the Dhonis as reef fish began their nocturnal feeding frenzy. Be alert as fish tend to eat and run, cheating the eager fisherman of his catch.

Big Game Fishing Be ambitious and net a big fish. Trawling is the best method to get barracuda, wahoo, and sailfish. What an adventure.

Sunset Cocktail As a subdued, calm alternative to fishing, get on a Dhoni and enjoy a cocktail while watching the sun go down in a kaleidoscope of colours.

Snorkeling The lagoons of Baa Atoll are home to some unique marine life such as lionfish, angel fish and large manta rays. In order to preserve this underwater wonderland, guests are reminded not to step on corals, or break and take away any part of the reef.

Island Hopping Visit one local island, one uninhabited island and one resort. Have a barbecue and go snorkelling on a private island and create lifetime memories

Hello Neighbours Let us take you to a local island and a nearby resort for you to compare the differences. Meet the friendly people of these tiny islands and explore their way of life.

Overnight Picnic No noise, no pollution, no buildings and only your footprints. The virgin island Gemendhoo (Royal Village) is all yours. Get 'stranded' on a desert island with only the essentials of a full picnic and your loved one. You won't need anything else.
