Ilha do Pico, Brazil

White sandy beaches, lush tropical vegetation, 2 fully-equipped residences, and dolphins playing in the warm, tranquil waters which surround your private island… all this can be yours, and at a remarkably low price. Situated in Ilha Grande Bay, 300 km (186 miles) from Säo Paulo and 265 km (165 miles) from Rio de Janeiro, Ilha do Pico (Peak Island) is an idyllic vacation island rising out of the waters off the Brazilian coast. 

From the sandy beach facing the mainland, one can view the picturesque valley lying within the hillside, a rocky peak over 100 metres (335 feet) high (from which the island takes its name) covered by large bromelias, a large area of intact Atlantic forest, and fresh, drinkable water. All of this is preserved so that you, your family and friends can enjoy the most fascinating seaside area of the Brazilian coast in complete privacy and comfort. Ilha do Pico (Peak Island) is not a hotel or an inn, rather, it is a project that was conceived so that guests can leave their worries behind and experience the pleasures of relaxing on their own, private island.

Accommodations are provided in two fully-equipped, furnished homes, the Rock House (Casa da Pedra) and the Beach House (Casa da Praia), and as the island is never rented to more than one group at a time, your privacy is assured.

The Rock House: The Casa da Pedra, or Rock House, is surrounded by the ocean, with the exception of the service area at the back of the house - almost an island within an island. The house comfortably accommodates eight people, and is the ideal place to observe the dolphins which frequently pass by the island. It is common to hear the sound of the herons in their nests, and encounter ties-sangue (a bird of the tanager family) circling the house. From the porch, you can see the small Ilha Redonda (Round Island), while further away there is Ilha de Itacá (Itacá Island), where there is always fresh fish available.

The Beach House: Situated on the white, sandy beach and surrounded by almond trees, the Casa da Praia, or Beach House, offers the comfort and charm that only a beach house can provide. The Beach House is the preferred place for a drink or nighttime chat. From the porch, you can see the beautiful valley in the hill area beyond the sea. Perfect for a couple, there is also a small mezzanine area with sleeping accommodations for two other guests. 

Renting Info: Ilha do Pico (Peak Island) is rented on a per-person, per-day basis. The island is never rented to different groups on the same dates. The minimum price for renting the island is US$220 per day (for up to 4 guests). If there are more than four guests in the party, the daily price will be increased by US$55 per additional person. As an additinal cost we have kitchen services - dish washing and cleaning the kitchen - which costs US$ 15.00 per day for the whole group. If the guests prefer a cook and dishwashing service, the cost is US$ 30.00 per day. When the reservation is made, the party must pay a 30% down payment as a guarantee. The balance is to be paid one month prior to your stay on the island. 

Electricity: The island is equipped with a solar energy system (12 volts) to offer you an enjoyable stay, free of noisy generators.

Heating and Refrigeration: Gas-powered showers and refrigerators are provided.

Communication: The island has a VHF maritime radio, but you should bring your cellular phone, which can be re-charged in vehicle cigarette lighters with the proper equipment.

Boat rides: There are boats available for transportation and recreation. The trip to and from the island is free of charge. For boat rides, fuel is charged (US$20/hour). Recreational boats are rented on a daily basis.

Included: Basic cleaning supplies for the houses, bed linens and towels (one set per person, depending on the number of days spent on the island), kitchen utensils, plates and silverware, beach chairs, sun umbrellas, a grill and stereo.

Not included: Personal hygiene products, paper coffee filters, aluminum paper, paper towels, condiments, food products in general, breakfast, insect repellant (there are very few mosquitoes), beach towels and blankets.

Services offered: Transportation to and from the island from Praia Grande, 10 north of the city of Paraty. Cleaning and tidying up of bedrooms and maintenance of equipment. The caretakers will also accompany guests on boat rides. If guests' maids sleep at the Rock House (Casa da Pedra) or Beach House (Casa da Praia), they will be charged rent. Rent is not charged for children under age three. House pets of any type are not allowed on the island.
