Travelers Digest Paris Guide & Detailed City Map
Introduction
Versailles, Fontainebleau, Vincennes, Saint-Germain-en-Laye,
La Malmaison, Courson and Vaux-le-Vicomte are just a few
examples of sites worth visiting in a region where châteaux
vie for splendour, monuments abound and museums count in the
hundreds. From royal cities to small medieval towns, or from
flamboyant churches to modest cloisters, the stones in
Ile-de-France do indeed talk, telling the history of a
region and a country build upon great events.
Paris Ile-de-France throws open the doors to its rich
heritage: châteaux, museums, monuments, unusual sites,
artist's homes, gardens and natural parks.
The Louvre Museum, Versailles Château, Orsay Museum,
Saint-Denis Basilica and the Fontainebleau Château are all
just a small part of what makes Paris Ile-de-France the most
beautiful museum in the world. Between cultural visits and
entertainment possibilities, there are ample opportunities
to take advantage of your stay and discover the very best in
festive entertainment and leisure activity : shows, Parisian
reviews, operas, not to mention shopping, sports and more.
Paris Ile-de-France : A cultural gold mine !
Nightlife
Whether it is on a terrace beneath sweet summer
skies, at flashy reviews, operas, theatres, concerts or the
latest discos, nights are always synonymous with
celebrations and gatherings. All you have to do is let your
desires lead the way…
Everything that Paris Ile-de-France has to offer abounds
in spectacle and enchantment: evenings on terraces beneath
sweet summer skies, reviews bathed in glitter and glitz,
operas and the hottest discos around.
Whether you want to warm up or wind down, you can dance
the night away in Paris, home to a multitude of nightspots:
multi-level discos, themed evenings, raves, clubs hosting
world-famous DJs, African, salsa, raï or old-time music…
The hardest part is choosing where to go first!
Shopping
Shopping in the capital is not a question of
luxury but of temptation, which taunts you at every street
corner you see! The choice is limitless and prices vary
according to the label and the neighbourhood. But what
difference does that make? Sometimes its nice to treat
yourselves to something special. You're in Paris, after all
!
Paris is a major world capital and a crossroads for the
latest trends. Shopping in the capital is not a question of
luxury but of temptation, which will that taunt you at every
street corner you see !
Place des Victoires
At just a few steps from the Palais Royal, you will
discover the latest collections and tendencies of a few
great names in the fashion world.
The Marais Quarter
Located on the right bank, it is one of the oldest
neighbourhoods in Paris. It is the trendiest of fashion
quarters with one boutique after the other and bars that
make ideal rest stops… Important note: Most of the
boutiques situated around the rue des Francs-Bourgeois
(Place des Vosges) are open on Sundays.
Saint-Germain des Prés
This is probably the busiest quarter of the Capital.
You can take in the charm of this picturesque neighbourhood
after you have scouted out the Saint-Germain Church with its
adjoining art galleries, and the Saint-Sulpice Church with
its surrounding fashion boutiques and cafés bustling with
their regular clientele.

the Unknown Soldier, where a permanently lit flame burns in
honour of those fallen for France on the battlefield.
