Hello everyone. This is the Travelers Digest newsletter for the month of October. New this month, one of our writers has completed an article about the city of Sanya on the tropical island of Hainan in China. Sometimes called the ‘Hawaii of the Orient’, Hainan is a beautiful island and is quite popular among travelers in the Asia region. The article takes aim at the island’s many five-star resorts and gives advice on how to select the one that’s right for you. Take a look and see if there’s any information about Hainan that could serve you in future travels.
The Travelers Digest Guide to Sanya and its resorts
In September (2011) I had the pleasure of visiting the city of Sanya on the tropical island of Hainan. Hainan is an island province of the People’s Republic of China and the island itself is quite large, almost 34,000 square kilometers in size. The capital is a city called Haikou, which is located on the northern part of the island. However, for the majority of tourists, the most interesting part of Hainan is the city of Sanya. Located on the southernmost part of Hainan, Sanya is the only area in China that is located inside of a tropical climate region. It’s because of this tropical climate that Sanya has become a magnet for tourists from across the mainland and Hong Kong, as well as tourists from places as far away as Russia.

Paris, a masterful work of architectural art in its own right, is globally recognized as one of the top cities for art lovers due to its dazzling collection of museums, galleries and artists’ hangouts. Visitors can find everything from classic masterpieces to the latest in contemporary creations. It’s the home of the world-famous Louvre museum, a former royal place, today boasting over 35,000 pieces of ancient and classical artwork including La Jaconde (the legendary Mona Lisa) and the seductive Venus de Milo. If you prefer modern art or if collecting artistic treasures is your passion, then Paris can surely accommodate your every desire with over 100 museums and galleries at your disposal.
Destination of the month - May 2010
Destination of the month: Barcelona, Spain. Any time of the year is good to visit Barcelona but the city especially shines in the springtime. Renowned for its beautiful setting and architectural stylings, Barcelona attracts visitors from across the globe. Its attractions include: the Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, Las Ramblas and La Placa Catalunya.

Destination of the month - March 2010
Destination of the month: Egypt. Egypt is known throughout the world as being an exciting and phenomenal tourist destination, however for much of the year temperatures in the region can deter travellers. This makes March a good time to visit as temperatures rarely break the 100 Degrees Fahrenheit mark (this is still Egypt).
Egypt has several must see locations. Most notably of course are the great Pyramids in Giza along with the sights of Cairo. Another place that should be high on any traveler’s list is Luxor with its captivating Valley of The Kings. Once you’ve had enough of the antiquities you would be wise to check out Egypt’s stunning red sea coast by visiting Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh on the Sinai.

Destination of the month - January 2010
Destination of the month: Cartagena, Colombia. Much of the northern hemisphere is in a serious cold snap at the moment which means it’s a great time to head south towards the equator. Cartagena is located on the Caribbean about a thousand miles north of the equator and has beautiful weather this month with temperatures regularly being in the 80’s or mid-20’s Celsius. Cartagena is sometimes called the ‘Cancun of South America’ and is known for its charming old town and stunning beaches.

Destination of the month - November 2009
Destination of the month: Rajasthan, India. Rajasthan is a state located in the northwestern part of India. It’s primarily a desert region known for its unique culture, historic palaces and forts and its amazing landscape. The state is also home to two national tiger reserves, and several holy sites of the Hindu and Jain religions.
As it is a desert region, visitors to Rajasthan have to be careful to avoid the extreme temperatures. It’s not advised to visit the region during the summer months, with temperatures being most comfortable from October-April. However November is one of the best times to visit Rajasthan as the weather is cool but it’s before the tourist high season which starts in December.
I’ll be in Rajasthan for the entire month of November; I’m making a circular route covering the state in its entirety. I’ll make sure to let everyone know how my trip turns out.

Destination of the month - October 2009
Destination of the month: Sydney, New South Wales. Sydney is a world class city that should be on everyone’s ‘must see’ list of travel destinations. There’s a beautiful harbour, some wonderful beaches, and a vibrant local culture. And October, in the southern hemisphere’s spring, is as good a time as any to visit Sydney.

Destination of the month - September 2009
Destination of the month: Trans-Siberian Railway. There’s not a better time than September to embark upon this epic rail journey. This is the magic hour after the heat of summer but before the chilling cold of the Russian winter.
The Trans-Siberian journey can be taken many ways, I personally would recommend taking the trans-Mongolian route from Moscow to Beijing. You’ll get to see most of the highlights of the Russian trip including Lake Baikal and Irkutsk, but you’ll also get to enjoy the isolation of Mongolia and finish your journey in the orient. The trip takes about one week and transverses over 7,000 km.
Read about my personal experiences on the Trans Siberian.

Destination of the month - August 2009
Destination of the month: Kandy, Sri Lanka. Kandy is a famous tourist town in the central hills of Sri Lanka. It’s located on a beautiful lake and is known for its lush rainforest and Buddhist temples. August is a good time to visit the area as it’s when the famous Esala Perahera festival takes place.
Destination of the month - May 2009
Destination of the month: Ohrid, Macedonia. While admittedly off the beaten path, Ohrid is a beautiful lakeside town in the Republic of Macedonia. Not known to too many tourists, here you can still find old world charm at bargain bin prices. If you’re a person who enjoys going to places not many others have, this could be your destination.
