Description Comprised of
four 15th century Venetian villas, this former monastery is located on the
north coast of Crete in the Venetian village of Giannoudi. The village is
three kilometers from Rethymno and seventy kilometers from Chania.
Giannoudi was originally a hilltop defense settlement. It enjoys open
views of the Cretan Sea. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has recognized
the monastery as a historic landmark. The complex was restored with local
materials, including Alfa stone from Rethymno and cypress wood. Each
apartment has its own private entrance and courtyard. The courtyards
(650m2) feature Venetian decorative stone carvings and are planted with
bougainvillea, cacti, jasmine, cypress, citrus, and palms. Each apartment
is equipped with garden furniture. In addition there is a four
hundred-year old olive press, housed in a separate building. The press has
now been converted into a bar, where guests can have a drink or a meal,
upon request. The central courtyard has a shared swimming pool. Giannoudi
is located seventy kilometers from Nikos Kazatzakis Airport and sixty
kilometers from Hania Airport. A rental car is required. Although private
parking is not available, there is ample free parking. Daily maid service
and breakfast for 2 people is included in the price. Dinner can be served
upon request for 20 euros per person. The washing machine costs 15 euros.
The villas can be rented together to accommodate a maximum of fifteen
people.
Interior
Description (80m2) Two
floors. Ground floor: The house is accessed from the street via Venetian
double doors. The inner courtyard features interesting plants and a
pergola-shaded dining table. There is a beautiful living room with an
arched doorway. The living room is equipped with a double sofa bed. There
is one bathroom with shower and separate WC. First floor: A massive stone
staircase leads to the second floor. There are teak floors and high
wood-beamed ceilings. There is a unique bedroom with three antique iron
single beds and three large windows with views of the Prasses Gorge. The
private roof terrace 70m2 has views of the sea. The amenities include:
electric heating, satellite TV, air conditioning.
